I honestly think that the Hey Chick stamp set is one of the cutest animal themed stamp sets that Stampin' Up has produced. I know a lot of people say that about a lot of other stamp sets, but I really love this one.
Project Recipe
Card base: Cut Bumblebee cardstock at 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" and score at 4 1/4"
Card layer: Cut Mossy Meadow cardstock 5 3/8" x 4 1/8". Do not adhere the cardstock to the card base just yet.
For the DSP layer, I used Bumblebee from the InColors 6 x 6 stack. One side has writing on it and the other side a wood tone. The wood tone is what I used on this card because it seemed to go with the barnyard theme. Cut the paper 5 1/4" x 4" and adhere it to the Mossy Meadow layer.
Measure out about 18-24" of Old Olive twine and double wrap it about 1/3 of the way down from the top of the card and make a bow on the right side.
Adhere the Mossy Meadow/Bumblebee layers to the card base.
Stamp the large chicken image as well as three of the unhatched egg images onto a scrap of thick basic white cardstock using Memento Black ink.
While you're stamping, now would be a good time to also stamp the sentiment "You're a Good Egg" onto a scrap of Basic White cardstock and set aside.
Color the feet on the unhatched eggs with dark Pumpkin Pie Stampin' Blend marker.
Color in the chicken's body starting with Ivory Stampin' Blends marker and then go back over the feathers with Light Soft Suede. Then color in the crown and chin wattle with Dark Real Red.
Cut out the pieces using the coordinating dies using the Stampin' Cut and Emboss machine.
Using the dies for the tree stump, chicken wire and sign stake, cut the pieces using Cinnamon Cider cardstock.
Next, cut the corn stalk from Mossy Meadow and at least two corncobs from Daisy Delight cardstock.
Assembling the images:
Before adhering any of the images to the paper, first lay the image of the chicken on the paper to see where you want it before adhering the tree stump and eggs. Otherwise, you might find it hangs over the edge of your card. Once you know where you want your chicken to be placed, start assembling the images from the bottom up.
Glue down the tree stump first.
Next adhere the "chicken wire." One way to put glue on it without it going everywhere is to put some liquid glue on the silicone mat and dab the glue lightly with a stamping sponge then onto the back of the image. Adhere it above the tree stump.
Pop up the eggs up on dimensionals and begin stacking them one above the other leaning in opposite directions so they look a little unbalanced.
Also pop the chicken up on dimensionals and align its back foot above the head of the top egg so its front foot is hanging in the air looking like it's getting ready to step off.
Adhere the cornstalk to the bottom right of the card. Then adhere the corn cobs.
If you're able to peel the top of the chicken wire a little, you can place the stake behind it.
Trim the stamped sentiment to fit on the stake and glue it in place.
And you're done!
